The numbers our mechanics use to tell whether a chain, pad or rotor is finished.

Drivetrain and brakes sale on until 30 September

MTB drivetrain and brake parts — Auckland

Chains, cassettes, brake pads and rotors, in stock in Westgate and on sale until 30 September. Before you buy anything, check whether yours are actually worn. Below are the numbers our factory trained mechanics work to, and some of you will find out you are fine for another season.

The numbers

These are what we actually measure. Check yours before you spend anything.

Chain stretch

0.5%

Then it's done. Leave it longer and it starts wearing the cassette to match it.

Brake pads

1–2mm left

And they're done. Past that you are braking on metal and taking the rotor with it.

Rotor

Check the stamp

That's your minimum. Every rotor carries its own, and we go by that rather than a rule of thumb.

Cassette

The chain knows

There's no gauge for it. We judge the tooth profile, and a new chain settles it.

Not sure? Bring it in and we'll tell you straight. Workshop bookings can be made online or over the phone.
